HOW TO FIND YOUR PERFECT CUTLERY PATTERN

Customers arrive with their dinner plates, side plates, bowls, afternoon tea sets – whatever they’re looking to match their cutlery to – and we’re able to show them how different cutlery patterns look on their table, just as they’d do at home.

Rebecca Cook – sales adviser

As home to more than 40 cutlery designs including Radford, the largest stainless-steel cutlery range in the world, we understand it can feel a little daunting. Since 1955, we’ve been crafting cutlery to elevate the everyday. Founder, Robert Welch worked in our Cotswold-based shop on a Saturday to hear feedback from his customers and help them select the best cutlery for their table.

Today, our Cutlery Matching Service continues his legacy within the honeycomb-coloured walls of our historic Studio Shop, in Chipping Campden. Our expert team is on hand to help you find your perfect match. It’s a simple, visual way of ensuring the cutlery pattern you choose works with your tableware, is perfectly sized and suits your style.

EXPERT ADVICE

Sales adviser Rebecca Cook is an expert when it comes to helping customers find their forever pattern. The cutlery matching magic, she says, happens on a table inside the shop space that’s already beautifully set with cutlery, plates, candlesticks, mills and more – an inspirational, seasonal tablescape that helps customers visualise how different tabletop elements can work together.

“Customers arrive with their dinner plates, side plates, bowls, afternoon tea sets – whatever they’re looking to match their cutlery to – and we’re able to show them how different cutlery patterns look on their table, just as they’d do at home,” she says.

“It’s an easy, stress-free way of choosing and seeing what will work perfectly with their existing tableware in their kitchens and dining rooms. It reassures them that what they’re buying, they’ll love forever.”

MATCH YOUR CUTLERY WITH YOUR CHINAWARE

As customers pick out their favourite cutlery patterns from the vast display at the front of the shop, Rebecca gets to work replacing the plates and bowls with the customer’s own pieces.

“It’s amazing how different cutlery patterns can look against different porcelain, or stoneware,” she says.

“Customers usually have a pretty good idea of the designs they like, because they’ve looked at our website and narrowed it down to three or four before they come in. But we’re still able to see what they have, and what their style is, and make suggestions.

“For example, if their tableware has a fine silver rim on it, we know Armscote Bead and Fairford will look amazing. With more rustic plates, the vintage finishes of Baguette and English Fiddle are perfect. If casual dining is their go-to, Trattoria is modern and sleek with a bistro feel.

“The hammered finish of Honeybourne and sculptural quality of Palm Air is fantastic for glamorous dinner party tables. And for Scandinavian-style mid-century tables, RW2 and Bergen, in our satin finish, are contemporary and minimalist.”

CUTLERY DESIGNS THAT GROW WITH YOUR FAMILY

Rebecca says the number of pieces available in the range is an important consideration when customers are using the Cutlery Matching Service. Radford, for example, is the largest stainless-steel cutlery collection in the world with more than 70 pieces, from the smallest coffee spoon to large serving sets, oyster forks, cheese knives and everything in between.

“For some, it’s really important to know they can add to their collection as they and their family grow,” she says. “Others just want a simple everyday set they can enjoy when they’re eating at home.”

You can make an appointment on +44 (0) 1386 841671 or just call in – it’s the only place in the world you can see the entire Robert Welch collection and compare all 40 different cutlery patterns.

Note: Our overseas delivery service is available to you when you spend over £150 (excluding tax) in our Chipping Campden Studio Shop.
